Troika Ranch

Troika Ranch
October 3

This was a session that was told by Dawn Stoppiello. During her lecture, she spoke about the different things that have been going on with dance and technology nowadays. For instance how they use motion which triggers sounds. It was quite interesting. Some of the sounds were MIDI along with certain motion control sensors. Her project, Troika Ranch, was created by her and her partner Mark Coniglio during their college days. Most of the lecture dealt with technology, modern dance and telecommunications.

Overall I thought this was an interesting event to attend. It was ok, and it just showed me how much technology has come and how it continues to advance throughout the years. Anytime things start evolving with motion to sound to dance -- its the new age, and although it is still experimental, we'll continue to evolve more and more complex along with technology.

The FWA

This website is dedicated solely towards flash. It shows different varieties of flash designs that people created and people who visit the site can vote on whether they like the site or not. The art behind it all is when you can actually work with some of the flash projects and interact with them. It also compiles different flash pieces from all around the net. The site itself has lots of other concepts such as newsletters, job postings, wallpapers and so forth. I found this site to be very "artsy."

Narrative Video

Minda Martin
Tues Sept 25

Towards the end of Sept a guest speaker came to one of my classes. Her name was Minda Martin. She shared her narrative about a personal piece from her life. She shared her film which incorporated themes with color scheme, and scenes. The art of it was she used certain lighting to make the scenes older. She used music from the same time period during her narrative to give the setting as if we were there. I enjoyed her work and her input on her pieces she showed. She showed 2 different pieces, one that was silent via actors, and another where the actors spoke. Both were really well and they gave different perspectives. I appreciated her work which helped me focus onto the piece that I was going to create.

Artist: Banksy

This website is based on the artist Banksy. He creates several provacative images on walls all across the world. He depicts them onto the walls by creating a stencilized look. In some of the photos you can see as if people would be reacting to his art. For example on a piece is where a guard is stenciled in on a wall where there was a previous marking, and he puts the guard facing the wall as if he was defacing the proprerty. Banksy's work is creative, using real objects, and adding art onto them to make a statement.

The Graphic Imperative

This is a art event that occurred at SDSU's art museum. I went to the event earlier this October.
They were different posters that talks about different issues such as Peach, Environment and Social Injustice. With multiple posters from artists around the globe they used designs to show certain ideas. The website too shows the posters for those who'd be interested in going to visit the exhibit. The site shows the posters using flash, making it easy to scroll through the posters seen at the museum. I enjoyed visiting the exhibit and seeing artists form ideas based on several simple ideas. For example one called the 'Wave of Peace' which are white doves formed together above the ocean forming what looks like a wave. I was able to see that art can be comprised of several different techniques to make a simple piece into a strong statement.

In Character

Artist - Howard Schatz
In Character: Actors Acting
Location: Escondido, Center for the Arts

I went to this museum around Mid September.

We went to a art museum about actors acting to different prompts. Schatz' work is all based on photographs he took of actors. The way he created the pictures were by having the actor or actress be there and just react to the prompt Schatz gives. There are different pictures throughout the museum based on the given prompts. The pictures were all interesting, a lot of them were in black and white which to me gave it more meaning in comparison to the pictures that are in colors.
